We've recently published two papers:
First, Selina Niggli's first PhD project on interspecific interactions got published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology. Chiara Rezzoagli's last PhD paper (with MSc student Martina Archetti) on antibiotics and antivirulence compounds was published in PLOS Biology. Congratulations to all involved!

Dr Richard Allen has join the lab last June 1st as a postdoctoral researcher. Richard will be working with our natural strain collection and potential antibiotic resistance patterns among these strains. Welcome, Richard!
We have just released a new preprint! In this work, led by PhD student Selina Niggli, we looked at competitive interactions between two co-occurring human pathogens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphyloccocus aureus, and the (a)biotic factors that shape these interactions.
We've recently welcomed Johanna Giger to the lab. Johanna will be conducting her MSc research with us, and will be focusing on the effects of siderophores produced by free-living bacteria on human pathogens. Best of luck, Johanna!
We have just published a new preprint, an article lead by former group postdoc Santosh Sathe. In it, we look at how a "green-beard" cooperative mechanism is outdone by competition in the context of bacterial interspecific interactions.
Our review on bacterial social interactions in the context of infection, lead by former PhD student Dr. Chiara Rezzoagli, has just been published in the Journal of Medical Microbiology!
Over the last weeks, the group has published two papers:
First, our review on siderophore evolution, led by postdocs Jos Kramer and Özhan Özkaya, was published in Nature Reviews Microbiology. Also, our study on the multidimensional social profile of Pseudomonas environmental isolates, came out in FEMS Microbiology Ecology This work was lead by postdoc Jos Kramer, and was co-authored by undergrad summer student (BUSS) Miguel López Carrasco, from the University of Málaga. Santosh's paper on Burkolderia cenacopacia siderophores has been published in Evolution Letters. Congratulations Santosh!
Conference Season is over and here is the summary of the lab's activities:
FEMS 2019 in Glasgow, UK: Chiara presented a poster Pseudomonas 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Priya presented a poster; Rolf gave a talk. ISEMPH 2019 in Zurich, Switzerland: Martina and Chiara presented posters; Selina gave a talk. ESEB 2019 in Turku, Finland: Oz presented a poster; Subham, Alex and Jos gave talks. SSM 2019 in Zurich, Switzerland: Alex presented a poster; Rolf and Selina gave talks; Désirée and Vera also attended. Rhizosphere Meeting 2019, in Lake District, UK: Jos and Rolf will give talks. Selina won the best short-presentation award on the topic Environmental Microbiology at SSM 2019! Congratulations, Selina! This August we welcomed a new member in our lab: Ingrid Mignot is our new Lab Manager and joins us after 6 years at ETH Zurich. Welcome Ingrid!
